Getting Started

After installing Soundtorch, you can drag sound files or a folder containing sound files onto the window. The sounds are loaded and arranged so that similar sounds are placed close-by. Hover with the mouse over sounds which you want to play back. Read the rest of the manual.

Keys Commands

  • W, A, S, D
    Pan and zoom the view
  • R
    Reset the view so that all sounds become visible
  • Space
    Toggle between the torch and solo playback mode
  • Delete
    Removes selected sounds from the view

Shortcuts

  • CTRL-C
    Copy selected sounds to clipboard
  • CTRL-V
    Paste sound(s) from clipboard

Mouse Commands

  • Right click on sound icon
    Open Sound Menu
  • Right click on background
    Open Soundtorch Menu
  • Click + drag on background
    Move the view
  • Click on sound icon
    Select a single sound
  • CTRL + click on sound icon
    Add sound to selection
  • CTRL + drag on background
    Rubberband selection
  • Drag selected sound(s)
    Start drag and drop operation
  • Double click on sound icon
    Toggle C.A.S.E Magnet mode of sound

Sound Menu

  • C.A.S.E select
    Selects similar sounds in the Soundtorch window
  • C.A.S.E import
    Imports similar sounds from the library into Soundtorch
  • C.A.S.E magnet
    Toggle C.A.S.E Magnet mode of sound
  • solo
    Toggle between the torch and solo playback mode
  • copy
    Copy selected sound to clipboard
  • export
    Export selected sound(s) as *.wav file
  • select in Explorer..
    Open the Windows Explorer with the file highlighted

Soundtorch Menu

  • new map
    Clear all sounds from the Soundtorch window
  • load map..
    Load a previously saved collection of sounds into the Soundtorch window
  • save map..
    Save the current collection of sounds in the Soundtorch window as *.xml file
  • add Sounds to map..
    Load sounds from the Windows Explorer into the Soundtorch window
  • add Sounds to index..
    Add sounds to the library
  • copy selection
    Copy selected sounds to clipboard
  • paste
    Paste sound(s) from clipboard
  • invert selection
    deselects selected sounds, selects previously unselected sounds
  • view all
    Reset the view so that all sounds become visible
  • Headphone-Surround
    Toggle surround virtualisation (improves localization on headphones)
  • use auto-cut
    When active, newly imported sounds are auto-cut into logical segments

Audio

Soundtorch uses the default Windows Playback Device. It can utilize 2.0, 4.0 and 5.1 configurations.
